Even with the ever growing world wide web, print design still plays a very important role in business. Whether it be business cards, brochures, or even clothing, print designs are a very effective way to advertise your business.

There are several things you should know about print design before hiring a designer. One of the most important things to remember is that this design, is at some point going to be printed. And you must make certain that your printer is capable of printing what is being designed. You should always consult with your printer before starting a design. Many printers have very specific specifications that must be adhered to. There are resolution requirements, bleed requirements, and size requirements, just to name a few.

It is very important that you speak with your printer to make sure they can print the design the way that you want it printed. This is very important when it comes to custom designs that are unique in one way or another. For example, if you hire a designer to design a special brochure, that requires a specific shape or die cut, you may find out that you cant find a printer that can cut it. Many printers do not offer custom die cut prints, and this would become a large problem, after you have spent time and money on a designer to design it exactly like you want it.  Most designers including myself, will ask you before hand, if you have a printer that can carry out this custom job.

Though finding a printer to print custom cuts, folds, etc... may be hard, that doesnt mean you have to stick to the standard, feel free to be creative and explore all possibilities.

• Consult Your Printer

Once you have an idea. Start contacting printers, and be sure they understand exactly what your unique idea is. If you are going to require a specific cut, they will definitely need to know this. Find out all requirements and specifications so that you can share this information with your designer.

• Begin Your Designer Search

Once you have confirmed a printer, that can carry out your needs, start seeking your designer. It is important that your designer knows that your printer requires specific specifications. The designer will need to know everything from bleeds to required formats.

These three steps should get you on the right track to creating a unique design that will amaze anyone.
