Pickle Of The Pixel
Today I find myself in the pickle of the pixel. Just what is a pixel? Years ago, The Platters had a hit song called "The Great Pretender." That melody keeps playing in my head as I write today's blog.
A pixel is simply a picture element. It is a single point or smallest accessible screen element known in a raster image. Ok, I got that, but what on earth is a raster image.
Well simply speaking, a raster image is a data structure that represents a grid of pixels or points of colors which form the overall image on the screen. The raster or bitmap is a way to represent images.
Now I am familiar with the jpg. format as I am sure all you web- pretenders out there are. But the raster image takes a variety of formats. There is gif., jpg. and bmp. The higher the resolution, the greater number of pixels and the smaller the digital image file. Each pixel is assigned a value which determines its color. 0;0,0 would be black. Color values can range all the way up to 256. The raster image uses the RGB- Red, green, blue color system. In subtle shading this system is invaluable.
When viewed, the raster image smoothes out for the viewer, but when blown up, the pixels in the photograph or drawing become apparent.
Usually this is not desirable.
It is so important for people who work with computer graphics to find the right balance between resolution and image. The Skilled Graphics Team can assist you in designing a professional website. Bold images that will impact the viewer and assist you in growing your business.
